On March 5, 2011, Bill Irwin from Cumberland County AOH Division 2 and State Senator Pat Vance presented Knights of Columbus Council 869 with a Presidents Volunteer Service Award. Accepting the award from Sen. Vance are (right to left from center) Grand Knight Tim Loftus, Chancellor Ed Wilson, Tim Carley,Warden Len D'Amico, Barry Foltz, Advocate Bill fleming and Rodney Owens. Carley, Foltz, Fleming and Ownes were also honored individually for their community service.

Susan Rudy (center), Director of the Silence of Mary Home, spoke to Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Council 869 on the mission of her organization and to thank the Council for $1,500 donated during 2010. Knights of Columbus Council 869 awards a $1,750 prize to the winner of the "What World Youth Day Means To Me" Contest, Elizabeth Turner, a student at Trinity High School. This prize represents one-half of the expected expenses for attending World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid Spain. Miss Turner attended a September 27, 2010 Council meeting to read her essay and to accept her award. Pictured are Nic Barrelet, Treasurer and contest chairman, Bruce Turner, Council 869 member and father of the winner, Elizabeth Turner contest winner, and Jim McGovern, Council 869 Trustee and teacher at Trinity HS. All those pictured are residents of Lower Paxton Township.

Pictured: Len D'Amico, Knights of Columbus Council 869 Warden and Home Association President, presents a $2,000 check from the Council and Home Association to Harrisburg Fire Chief Robert Talloni for the purchase of smoke detectors. The Harrisburg Fire Dept. makes smoke detectors available to the public. On October 25, 2010, Chief Talloni spoke to the Council on the correct use of smoke detectors and what was learned from the tragic fire on Forest St. in the city. All are encouraged to have working smoke detectors with working batteries in their homes.
